The team

Panteras is a Mexican robotics team formed by students from Universidad Panamericana Preparatoria and Centro Escolar Cedros.

We participate on the FIRST contests such as FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and First Tech Challenge (FTC). Our goal as a team is to spread science and technology in the world in a fun and friendly way which gives experience and knowledge to everyone who participate in these contests.

In this web site, we want to show the building process of our robots. Showing how the engineers, programmers, designers, administrators, mentors and coaches work together to have the final result.

As part of our community service in Latin America, we have translated to Spanish some manuals; as well as the web site.

Vision: What we expect for this competition is to show Latin America that you can do almost everything if you work in teams.

Mission: To instill in students a desire to learn with technology and research of Science and Mathematics before it is too late.

Our History

Everything started in 2004 with a group of Mexican students of Universidad Panamericana Preparatoria who decided to create a robotics workshop. In 2005 they decided to participate FIRST VEX Challenge regional, where they got the 3rd place and the pass to Atlanta’s World Championship. With “Mostro”, the robot, Panteras became the first Latin American team that participated in FIRST contests.

In 2007 Panteras got the Inspire Award in Mexico’s FVC regional and the pass to Atlanta’s World Championship where the team won the 6th place. This year we also created the first FRC team with "Guacamole". The team participated in Detroit’s regional and won the Rookie All Star Award and the pass to Atlanta’s World Championship, where we also won the rookie all star award, thanks to the work and the enthusiasm of the team.

It began the first day that we got back to school from winter vacation, to be specific, January the 8 the , 2007. The decision of making UP and Cedros part of the FRC had been made just a couple of weeks before the announcement so we had no teams.

Directors and teachers from a Universidad Panamericana and Centro Escolar Cedros got the alumni prospects together and asked them if they were interested in participating or not. An initial meeting took place the next day to talk us into the project, which will succeed only as a result of a great amount of effort and dedication.

One of the main sponsors of the project was the transnational automotive company General Motors. Both GM and Universidad Panamericana are eagerly interested into creating a strong bound between youngsters and technology so they can be ready to confront the challenges of a new era. This sort of projects helps people to gain experience, values and knowledge that are indispensable nowadays.

With a total of 35 members, 22 alumni, 5 teachers from both institutions and 8 members from the GM staff we adventured ourselves into one of the most ambitious projects we have ever been in.

Being the first Mexican team to participate in this competition and the first to be fully participating in every area of the FRC was not easy, soon inexperience began to charge its debts, even though some of our members had already been participating at the FIRST Lego league and the FIRST Vex Challenge before. All of them knew how hard it was but some of us didn't, inexperience wasn't a mitigating factor for our enthusiasm which prevailed from the beginning to the end. Getting in touch with other experienced teams also helped our performance during the robot construction.

In 2008 PANTERAS FTC “Aquiles” a robot with very especial characteristics and a very original design, and in FRC OTNI was created, a robot with a peculiar design. OTNI participated in San Jose, CA. regional, where the team gained experience and enthusiasm to do better the new 2009 season. PANTERAS FTC, with inspiration, hard work and team spirit, won Mexico’s regional in which the team also participate on it’s organization, then with the pass to Atlanta’s World Championship the team won the Inspire Award, the greatest Award, given to the team that showed the best organization, teamwork, enthusiasm, best robot development, engineering notebook and also won with the help of “Paquito”. Now the team meets again with a lot of enthusiasm and new ideas to achieve the best.

Later, in 2009, CAMOTE won the Engineering Inspiration Award in Dallas, TX. This robot had a particular design who could take and shoot "lunar balls" of the LUNACY challenge; with this achievement, Pantera's passed to the Atlanta's World Championship again. In the FTC category, the Connect award was won in the regional of Monterrey in Mexico.

In 2010, FTC won the Inspire Award and the Winning Alliance award, one team each one, one of the Centro Escolar Cedros and one of the Universidad panamericana High School. And in FRC, we won again the Engineering Inspiration award in Dallas, TX; so we passed to the Atlanta's World Championship, where we won the Team Spirit Award.

Sure we can!. As part of our labor to the non-native English speakers, we offer translations from English to Spanish.

Sure we can. Panteras has helped teams all over the Mexican republic, Chile and Colombia. So even if you are not in Mexico, we can also help you. Just send us a mail.

Promovidos por primera vez por Joaquín Nuno, Francisco Padilla, Christian Hernández and Bárbara Goméz; Panteras es un equipo de robótica mexicana formada por estudiantes de la Universidad Panamericana Preparatoria y Centro Escolar Cedros.

Participamos en los concursos de FIRST como FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) y First Tech Challenge (FTC). Nuestra meta como equipo es expandir la ciencia y tecnología por todo el mundo de una manera agradable y amigable que deje una grata experiencia y un gran conocimiento a cualquiera que participe en dichos concursos.

En este sitio web, queremos mostrar el proceso de construcción de nuestros robots. Se muestra cómo los ingenieros, programadores, diseñadores, administradores, consejeros y entrenadores trabajan juntos para producir el resultado final.

Como parte de nuestro servicio a la comunidad en América Latina, hemos traducido al español algunos manuales, así como la página web.

Visión: Lo que esperamos para este concurso es mostrar a América Latina que se puede hacer casi todo si trabaja en equipo.

Misión: También buscamos inculcar en los estudiantes el deseo de aprender con la tecnología y la investigación en Ciencias y Matemáticas antes de que sea demasiado tarde.

Nuestra Historia

Todo empezó en 2004 con un grupo de estudiantes mexicanos de la Universidad Panamericana Preparatoria que decidió crear un taller de robótica. En 2005 decidieron participar en el regional de la categoría FIRST Vex Challenge, donde obtuvieron el 3er lugar y el pase a Mundial de Atlanta. Con "Mostro", el robot, Panteras se convirtió en el equipo de latinoamericana en participar en los concursos FIRST.

En 2007 obtuvo el Premio Inspire en la categoría de FVC en el regional de México y el pase al Campeonato Mundial de Atlanta, donde el equipo ganó el sexto lugar. Este año también creamos el primer equipo de FRC con "Guacamole". El equipo participó en el regional de Detroit y ganó el Premio Rookie All Star Award y el pase al Campeonato Mundial de Atlanta, donde también ganó el Premio Rookie All Star Award, gracias a la labor y el entusiasmo del equipo.

Comenzó el primer día que volvimos a la escuela de las vacaciones de invierno, para ser específicos, el día 8 enero de 2007. La decisión de hacer, a la UP y al Cedros parte de FRC, se había hecho sólo un par de semanas antes del anuncio, así que no había equipos.

Directores y profesores de la Universidad Panamericana y Centro Escolar Cedros llamaron a los posibles miembros a ver si les interesaba el proyecto. Una primera reunión tuvo lugar al día siguiente para hablar con nosotros en el proyecto, que sólo tendría éxito como resultado de una gran cantidad de esfuerzo y dedicación.

Uno de los principales patrocinadores del proyecto fue la empresa transnacional automotriz General Motors. Tanto GM como la Universidad Panamericana estaban interesados en la creación de una fuerte unión entre los jóvenes y la tecnología para que puedan estar preparados para enfrentar los desafíos de una nueva era. Este tipo de proyectos ayuda a la gente para ganar experiencia, valores y conocimientos que son indispensables hoy en día.

Con un total de 35 miembros, 22 alumnos y 5 profesores de ambas instituciones y miembros del personal de GM, nos aventuramos en uno de los proyectos más ambiciosos en los que jamás hemos estado.

Ser el primer equipo mexicano en participar en este concurso y la primera en tener una participación plena en todos los ámbitos de la categoría de FRC no fue fácil, pronto empezó la inexperiencia comenzó a hacerse notar, a pesar de que algunos de nuestros miembros ya habían sido participantes en la Liga FIRST LEGO y el FIRST Vex Challenge antes. Todos ellos sabían lo difícil que era, pero algunos de nosotros no, la inexperiencia fue un factor mitigante de nuestro entusiasmo que prevaleció desde el principio hasta el final. Pero entrar en contacto con otros equipos de experiencia, también ayudó a nuestra desempeño durante la construcción del robot.

En 2008 Panteras FTC "Aquiles", un robot con características muy especiales y un diseño muy original, y en FRC, OTNI se creó, un robot con un diseño muy particular. OTNI participó en San José, California. Donde el equipo ganó la experiencia y el entusiasmo para hacerlo mejor la nueva temporada en 2009. Panteras FTC, con la inspiración, trabajo duro y el espíritu de equipo, ganó el regional de México, en el que el equipo también participó en la organización, luego con el pase al Mundial de Atlanta, el equipo ganó el Premio Inspiration Award, el máximo galardón concedible a un equipo en esta categoría, otorgado al equipo que mostró la mejor organización, trabajo en equipo, entusiasmo, en el mejor desarrollo de robots, cuaderno de ingeniería y también, ganó con la ayuda de "Paquito". Ahora el equipo se reúne de nuevo con mucho entusiasmo e ideas nuevas para lograr lo mejor.

Más tarde, en 2009, Camote ganó el Premio Engineering Inspiration en Dallas, TX. Este robot tiene un diseño que podría tomar y disparar "bolas lunares" del desafío LUNACY; con este logro, Panteras pasa al Mundial de Atlanta de nuevo. En la categoría de la FTC, el premio Connect en el regional de Monterrey en México.

En 2010, FTC obtuvo el Premio Inspiration y el premio de la mejor Alianza, un equipo del Centro Escolar Cedros y uno de la Universidad Panamericana Preparatoria. Y en FRC, volvió a ganar el premio Engineering Inspiration en Dallas, Texas, así que pasamos al Campeonato en Atlanta, donde ganamos el Premio Team Spirit, al espíritu de equipo en la categoría de FRC.

Este año, estamos dispuestos a dar lo mejor de nosotros para tener unos mejores logros y un mayor impacto en la gran comunidad que solo FIRST puede formar. Gracias

Panteras simpre está buscando poder ayudar a otros equipos, especialmente los de latinoamerica. Esto es porque queremos esparcir el mensaje de FIRST a todos, y como estamos en la ciudad de México, te podemos ofrecer asistencia en Español e Inglés.

No entiendo el Inglés muy bien, ¿me podrían ayudar?

Por supuesto. Como parte de nuestra labor para los no-hablantes, ofrecemos traducciones de Inglés a Español.

Quiero abrir un equipo, pero no tengo idea de como se hace, ¿Me podrían ayudar?

Claro. Panteras ha ayudado equipos en la república mexicana, Chile y Colombia. Así que aunque no estés en México, te podemos ayudar. Tan solo mándanos un mail.
